Bypass oil filtration technology was originally introduced to the trucking industry in the 1930's. It was the exclusive means for filtering engine oil from the early 1930's until the early 1960's. At that time, engine manufactures moved away from bypass filtration when full flow filtration became vogue. People saw full flow as having the ability to filter all the oil at once as opposed to the 10% at a time that bypass filtration does even though full flow filters don't have the ability to filter out anything but the largest particles out of the oil.
Oil & Gas
Oil drilling rigs oil change costs vary depending on whether its a land based rig or water based. Obviously, it is extremely expensive to do an oil change in either environment but when the change is done on the ocean, extreme care has to be exercised as well as careful planning on getting the old, used oil off the drilling rig and safely back to land. On the water based rigs, the two main concerts are water polution and equipment downtime. Most of the drilling equipment cannot afford to be down even for a few minutes as lost drilling time means lost money for these companies.
